In 1955 Hotel City Copenhagen opened its doors. Back then, most of the overnight guests were sailors in need of a hotel room in Copenhagen on shore leave
In 1977 the current owner John Mortensen bought the hotel from his parents, who founded it in 1955. The hotel has never left family hands.
At Hotel City Copenhagen, we’ve always prioritised design highly. In 1990 the hotel was remodelled by famous Danish architect and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, Nils Fagerholt.
In 2009 the hotel underwent yet another large renovation, in which the hotel was furnished with iconic Danish furniture design by world-renowned designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm, Jacob Gubi and Kasper Salto.
Owner John Mortensen’s great passion for jazz has also left its mark. John is related to the now deceased jazz musician Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen and all over the hotel you’ll find portraits of prominent jazz musicians.
Today, the hotel is characterised by a timeless design that goes hand in hand with its charming and peaceful atmosphere.
